EXHIBITION

Jawad Al-Malhi

Next in our series of solo exhibitions curated by Dr. Housni al-Khatib Shehadeh is this highly regarded Jerusalemite artist. He primarily deals with themes of public space and… hesitation.

Often eerily immobile scenes are depicted using real places and imagined elements in an attempt to create something universal from the specific. "Do I have a place here, do I have a room here?" enquires one of his video pieces, rather fittingly for an exhibition in Bethlehem.

Jawad Al-Malhi was born in Jerusalem in 1969. He works in painting, photography, video and site-specific installation, often exploring marginalized communities and their relationship with their environment. He has exhibited internationally from Beirut to The Hague and the Venice Biennale.
